It is Stanley Cup Playoffs time.
It is also World Championships time. It might not matter much to fans in North-America but it is a quite bigger deal for Europeans.
If you are not a new visitor here, you know we own a database of about 50 leagues around the world.
Which allowed us to create coefficents converting any players into any league value, and of course NHLe. Which becomes handy for the WC, because how do we value a roster including players from various leagues?
For the World Championships, we took the 420 players enlisted and converted their value into NHLe, just like if we were projecting them in the NHL next season, allowing us to establish team’s overall values, rolled the schedule… and ta dammmm.
Nothing fancy but it would go like:
GROUPE A:
Canada
Sweden
Finland
Latvia
Slovakia
Austria
Slovenia
France
GROUPE B:
USA
Czechia
Switzerland
Germany
Denmark
Norway
Kazakhstan
Hungary
Which would mean:
Canada > Germany
Sweden > Switzerland
Czechia > Finland
USA > Latvia
Canada > Sweden
USA > Czechia
And Canada would win the gold medal against the USA.
How wrong will we be?
